There are companies that have policies that discourage office romance and there are those who allow it. If you find yourself employed with the latter, then consider yourself lucky. But it doesn’t mean that you should throw caution to the wind!
Here are five office romance etiquette to practice:
SKIP THE BOSS AND YOUR SUBORDINATE
It may not be a good idea to get romantically involved with your boss, your subordinate or a direct report. Not only will both your credibility be at stake, but there is
MAINTAIN A STRICTLY PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR AT WORK
No public display of affection, flirting, or any inappropriate touching or fighting while at work. Do not use office resources like the email to write love letters, notes, or give gifts! And should the time come that your romance has come to an end, do not let a breakup interfere with your work.
Once people get a whiff of a brewing office romance, both you and your beau will be the subject of office gossip. Your coworkers will be watching you – any romantic gesture or a tiny squabble will be feasted on by prying eyes.
If either of you is privy to the topmost secret information(salaries, promotions, trade secret, labour cases and the likes) do not discuss these with your significant others because it can lead to a possible breach of confidentiality. Any classified company information should be handled with utmost caution.
NO COITUS AT THE OFFICE OR AN OFFICE EVENT
You can get booted out of your job for grave misconduct. Sex at the office is never a good idea. I cannot stress this enough so please, No Sex at the office.
While the office may seem a romantic and convenient place to start a relationship, there’s always a down side to it. Before plunging into one, check whether the pro’s will outweigh the cons.
