6 FUN AND CHEAP DATE IDEAS FOR BROKE COUPLES

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching and you find yourself short on funds, I’m pretty certain that many of you are busy googling “Valentine’s Date ideas on a budget” and Sis, we feel you!

Let me be honest, Valentines is the least of my favourite occasions to celebrate.  I find it cheesy and reeking of the scent of “money-making”.

But since romance is still essential to any relationship, let’s focus on how to create that kilig feeling between you and your SO.

Worry not! Here are 6 date ideas to try that are both fun and easy on the bank.

PREPARE A HOME-COOKED MEAL

My husband is the happiest when I cook his favourite meals. The mere mention of me cooking steak for him makes him smile from ear to ear. And mind you, for as low as 300 pesos, you can get quality steak cuts at your local neighborhood grocery or meat shop. Cooking at home doesn’t  call for complex recipes too. It could be the classic adobo, Tocino, or Champorado with Tuyo.

Can’t cook to save your life? Not a problem!

BINONDO FOOD CRAWL

Binondo is a favourite foodie destination and there are plenty of hole-in-a-wall stores that serve Chinese cuisine that is easy on the pocket. Ermita has a variety of small food shops that serve authentic Korean, Japanese and Middle Eastern-themed meals.

MUSEUM TOURS

There are several museums that you and your special someone can visit with entrance fees as low as 20 pesos, and sometimes, if you do your research well, you can get in for free on specific days!

BINGE WATCH A NEW SHOW TOGETHER

If you are afraid of long lines and the horrible traffic that comes with Valentine’s day (or every freaking day?) why not indulge in streaming services like Netflix, Iflix or Hooq? It would be a relaxing and cost-free night to spend with your significant other.

TRAVEL ON A BUDGET

Is adventure your cup of tea? There are several tourist destinations just a few hours away from Manila that you can visit. Rizal, for example, is an underrated destination and it’s just UV Express ride away from Manila. There are neighbourhood coffee shops and local restaurants with affordable food plus you’ll be able to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Sierra Madre mountain range. The weather in Rizal is cool in the early mornings and late evenings, giving you the perfect reason to get close for cuddling.

The windmills of Pililia is must-see destination when traveling to Rizal.

KARAOKE NIGHT

Most bars offer the option renting a private room. Serenade each other with your impressive singing skills, or lack thereof, without worrying about what everyone else will think.

Going on dates need not break your bank account. As cliche as it may sound, love, in its truest purest form, doesn’t cost a thing.
