A LETTER TO MY YOUNGER SELF.
Dear little C,
Covered in mud, sweaty and smelling like the earth. You ran around the football field the whole day. Enjoy those carefree moments. Childhood is fleeting. Burdened with obligations, responsibilities, bills to pay and more are all part of growing up.
No matter what happens in the future, I want you to keep these in mind:
LIFE IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY
There will be heartbreaks, losses and your heart will get shattered many times. Always remind yourself to focus on the good, and only the good.
A grateful heart will always see the glass as half full- never half empty. A grateful heart will spell the difference in your outlook in life.
IT’S OKAY TO FAIL!
Failure makes us human and keeps us humble.
TRAVEL AND EXPLORE
Travelling will give you a wider view of the world. It will teach you patience, and hone your survival skills.
YOU HAVE AN IRRATIONAL FEAR OF LOVE
The failed marriage of your parents wounded you deeply. Their fate doesn’t spell yours.
YOU WILL END UP HURTING PEOPLE
Some were deliberate, but most were unintentional. You will learn about remorse, swallowing your pride and asking for forgiveness.
SUCCESS WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT MEANING AT EACH STAGE OF YOUR LIFE
Success is not one size, fit all kind of thing. Never measure your self-worth through the success of others. If you do that, you will always find yourself lacking.
GRIEF IS YOUR FRIEND
Acknowledge that emotion. Do not avoid it. Embrace it as you would an old long lost friend. Grieving allows you to heal and helps you value life.
Putting yourself and your needs first are not selfish. Practice self-care and self-love. It provides you with the fuel to keep on loving others.
MOMMYHOOD WILL TRANSFORM YOU FOR THE BETTER
Changing nappies, bathing a tiny person, Sleepless nights and most importantly, you will learn the true meaning of love. Unconditional, powerful and pure. The kind of love that can only be shared between the mother and her child.
Live your life with exuberance, it’s the only one you got! Joie de vivre!
We’d love to hear from you! Tell us some of the things you’d like to tell your younger self!
