Women are innate nurturers. It is coded in our DNA. But as the old adage goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup. You must fill yourself first and this is where self-care comes in handy.

Women wear many hats -Wife, mother, sister, partner, entrepreneur, career woman. We ladies have a lot on our plate, but are you getting enough rest? Not getting adequate shut-eye puts you at risk of developing some serious diseases like diabetes and heart problems. Sleep allows your body to repair itself. Resting and sleep lets you recuperate after a long tiring day.

EAT WELL

Eating a lot? Eating too little? Experts say that the key to good nutrition is eating everything in moderation. Your body needs all the nutrients it can get to properly function. Cutting back on certain food groups can result in vitamin deficiency.

Eat your greens, consume your meat, sip that glass of wine. And when in doubt, or in need of a special diet , always consult a registered dietician.

Being around a group of supportive, positive, and non-judgmental  women is good for your health and well being. Having gal-pals provides you with emotional support that you can only find amongst your circle of girl friends.

SLOW DOWN THE PACE AND INDULGE IN QUIET TIME

We are told to do more and get the most out of our time. Our schedules are jam-packed with activities left and right that we are caught in the whirlwind. Slowing it down a little helps you regain your footing. Indulging in quiet time calms and eases your mind.

Just stating facts here.

Self care starts with a conscious effort to put your needs first. It is not selfish to pay attention to your personal well being- may it be physical, emotional, or spiritual. Remember, “an empty lantern provides no light, self care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly”.
